Reverend John Flynn

Reverend John Flynn was born in Moliagul, central Victoria on the 25th of November, 1880. He was the third child of Thomas Eugene Flynn and Rosetta Lester. He graduated secondary school in 1898 and graduated university in 1910. He was ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian Church a year after he graduated university. The majority of his lives work led him to open the first aerial medical service in the world. He married at the age of 51 to the Miss Jean Baird, the secretary of the AIM (Australian Inland Mission) which was then renamed The Royal Flying Doctor Service. Reverend John Flynn died in Sydney from Cancer in May 1951. He was cremated and his ashes rest under the Flynn memorial at the foot of Mount Gillen, Alice Springs. Five years after his death the John Flynn memorial church was opened as a tribute.
