Traeger Pedal Radio
Contribution to the Australian Society
Apart from Flynn's work with the AIM, now called the Royal Flying Doctor Service, he also worked with a man called Alfred Traeger, together they devised a new innovation of pedal powered radios. These radios allowed people to contact one another in case of emergency or just for general social interaction across the outback. This innovation, the "Traeger Pedal Radio" was named after Alfred Traeger.
Reverend John Flynn was a selfless man who dedicated his whole life to improving the lives of fellow Australians living in the outback. Flynn identified the problems in the outback and proposed solutions, The Royal Flying Doctor Service was the solution to the lack of medical care and the Tragear Pedal Radio was the solution to the lack of adequate communication. Flynn's innovations have had a phenomenal impact on the Australian Society as he shaped how people live in the outback today. His vision to merge medicine, aviation and radio created a true social revolution across the outback of Australia and created "a mantle of safety over the inland".
